Implementation Focused Learning Health Systems

Presented 14th May 2026.

Learning Health Systems (LHSs) integrate research and practice to generate and apply evidence for continuous improvement in health service delivery. Applying LHS principles with an implementation focus holds considerable potential to strengthen health systems and improve health outcomes, yet there is limited guidance on how to operationalise these approaches. In this session, Drs. Lane and McCrabb present findings from a systematic review that consolidates global guidance into an implementation-focused LHS framework, comprising key system “pillars” and iterative improvement “steps” to support real-world implementation, scale-up, and sustainment.
